It’s literally seamless.
Mark One has a completely seamless design, which was quite an engineering feat. The pen has no excess ornamentation or logo, and comes in two colors: black or white. The metal plated nocks provide a nice little accent to each, and give Mark One a sophisticated look without looking overly tactical.
Durable
Made to last a lifetime.
Mark One is incredibly durable. It is made entirely out of metal, including the custom click mechanism. The pen is coated with Cerakote, which is an extremely durable ceramic-polymer coating (technical specifications for Cerakote). It gives the pen a really nice, matte feel. This pen should last a lifetime.
Retractable
A completely custom click mechanism.
There are many off-the-shelf click mechanisms we could have used, but none of them were quite right for what we wanted, so naturally, we made our own. It is made entirely out of metal and, as far as we know, it is the only all-metal mechanism on the market that has an actual “click” action. It is satisfying as heck to click.
Refill
Built for an amazing rollerball refill.
Mark One ships with our favorite refill, the Schmidt P8126 rollerball. This is a fantastic cartridge; the ink flows smoothly and dries quickly. However, Mark One will accept any Parker-style refill, which means there are many options for pen cartridges that our pen will accept. This list from Well-Appointed Desk is quite comprehensive. Been a couple weeks now and absolutely love the Mark One. I love the weight, but it is heavy and may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Writes really nicely, has a great feel to it, and just like the ad says, it’s a very satisfying click.
I will be ordering the Mark 2 next!
Really great pen. Excellent for note-taking and journaling!
I love my Studio Neat Mark One with the aluminum body and silver click.
I chose to experiment with refills and prefer the blue Schmidt P 8120, a 1.0 mm tip refill with a broader, bolder line than with the Schmidt P 8126, a 0.6 mm tip refill that comes standard with the pen. Your mileage may vary.
At first, I did not think the click mechanism on my pen worked 100%; sometimes I needed to click twice, but I think that was operator error in that if I fully let the click go in and let go, or fully let the click out and let it go, the tip comes into its intended position.
I write with a fountain pen most of the time but there are occasions when a fountain pen is not appropriate such as when I am marking up a piece of cheap paper or sticking a pen in my pocket to fill out forms someplace. So while the Studio One will not replace my fountain pen for all of my writing, on good paper it is nearly as satisfactory as a decent fountain pen.
I recommend the Studio One and have been very, very impressed with Studio Neat. They honored a first purchase discount when I couldn’t find the code and offered help when I was concerned about the click mechanism. They are a first class outfit in terms of product and customer service.
Go for it.
Bought as a gift for my husband, he was delighted. Elegant design, sits comfortably in your hand and writes beautifully. Prompt delivery and excellent tracking information.
